The Tool Shop Story
Tools, Inc. (dba Tool Shop and Building Supplies), is American Samoa's premier provider of tools (surprise!), lumber, and
general building supplies.
Founded in 1980 by two local businessmen, Peter Crispin and Wilbur ('Bill') Larson, the need was recognized for high quality tools for people of all trades. Becoming the authorized agents for Rigid, SK, KD, American Tool ('Vise-Grip'), Nicholson, Weller, Jorgensen Clamps, Channel, Skil-Bosch, Milwaukee, and Stanley was just the beginning.
Stanley Tools led to Stanley hardware and the largest selection of fasteners on Tutuila and all of the surrounding Samoan and Tongan Islands.
With such a huge selection, a single store in the Tafuna area was insufficient. 1988 marked the opening of the Malaloa store at the top of the Malaloa Marine Resources marina. Of course, boating and yachting supplies had to go on the shelf. As a Port Supply (West Marine) dealer, The Tool Shop is able to offer a unique money saver for yachties visiting Pago Pago: Special Orders are the West Marine Catalogue price plus only freight and duty. Imagine being able to buy an 8D battery or a 30kg anchor for a freight cost of less than US$20.00. Just to round out the marine area, Tools, Inc. is a stocking Johnson/Evinrude dealer, and carries a large selection of spare parts.
With such a rich offering, it makes sense that the Tool Shop and Building Supplies service's what they sell. In the outdoor power equipment area, The Tool Shop and Building Supplies in an Authorized Sales and Service Distributor for Echo, Briggs & Stratton, MTD, Tecumseh, and Kohler. As with Johnson Evinrude, our mechanics are factory certified. In 1997, The Tool Shop merged with PBF Building Supplies to be able to offer their customers treated timber, Type 2 cement, concrete block (brick), Simpson brand construction ties (none of the poor quality stuff, only the best)! In keeping with the 'Customer First' philosophy, free delivery is offered to any location on Tutuila.
Never being satisfied with 'ordinary' customer service, 2006 marked the opening of the Tool Shop Bay Area Lumber, located at the head of Pago Bay, to cut down the delivery time to our customers, a life saver to a big contractor fighting a deadline.
